The Ulmia Model 2 features a storage recess in the rear of the top which is 155mm wide. A single row of rectangular bench dog holes runs the length of the front of the top. The tail vise features a clamping hook. This workbench is available in 4 lengths, not all lengths are always in stock.
Ulmia workbenches are considered among the very highest quality workbenches made in the world. Extra thick Red Beech Tops, high-quality vise hardware, stout trestles, and time tested design are all hallmarks of the Ulmia workbench. Ask an old-timer or look around for the oldest benches that are still in use. You will probably see the Ulmia name.
The top is made of European Red Beech. The perimeter of the work area is made from solid 60mm (2 3/8″) wide X 120mm (4 11/16″) thick built-up stock. The tool tray is 155mm (6 1/8″) wide. The bench dog holes penetrate this thick rail at the front. The rest of the top is 60mm (2 3/8″)thick and is fashioned from smaller pieces which are toothed and glued together. The breadboard ends are through bolted into the top at the center of their length. The top comes completely assembled and connects to the trestle with 4 T-30 Torx Screws. The Trestle ends are made with mortise and tenon construction and are pre-assembled. The stringers have grooves top and bottom which support the 4 steel rods which through bolt to the legs. Once assembled the bench is rated to carry 800 kgs.
The precisely clamping Shoulder Vise with its square-profile thread spindle and steel guide rod guarantees maximum even pressure over the entire vise width. The vise is designed so that when unilaterial loads are applied to the clamping jaw and at maximum clamping pressure, a uniform pressure is exerted over the whole width of the vise. The shoulder vise capacity is 150mm (5 7/8″). The tail-vise uses a patented aluminium box guide with an adjustable, backlash-free guide V block. Plastic glides guarantee easy, smooth running of the tail vice. The tail vise capacity is 240mm (9 3/8″). Both vises are adjustable for wear and can be readjusted over time.
The drawer shown in the picture is an option available at an additional cost.
