The Ulmia Jointer plane is used for flattening surfaces and straightening edges. This jointer features an Ironwood sole which is extremely dense and long wearing, self lubricating, and adds almost an extra pound of heft. The iron is adjusted by means of a wooden wedge. Simply tap the iron for a deeper cut, or tap the strike plate on the heel for a more shallow cut. 60mm (2 3/8") iron with chipbreaker, 45° cutting angle, 600mm (23 5/8") X 80mm, 8 Pounds. Red Beech body, Ironwood sole. Made in Germany.
Wooden hand planes are a viable alternative to metal planes with mechanical adjusters. In a world full of metal planes, The Ulmia wood body planes provide elegant simplicity by providing time tested designs coupled with modern manufacturing methods and materials. Before metal adjusters, plane irons were adjusted to very precise tolerances by a simple tap of the iron for a deeper cut. A tap on the heel of the plane reduces the cut. This simple process is still in use around the world and preferred by many craftsmen as an alternative to mechanical adjusters. Wooden planes are also easier to tune and maintain than their metal counterparts and use simple woodworking skills and tools.
